As described elsewhere on this website, I created La Cueva de Luz to be a tranquil space filled with art and music for all to enjoy. And, as with the divine help I received in creating the illuminated sculptures in the Museum of Desert Lights and finding a space in which to display it, I feel a higher power allowed me to discover just the right musician to create and complete the ‘vibe" I intended. His name is Robin but his ‘handle’ on YouTube and Patreon is shatnershairpiece (an homage to everyone’s favorite starship captain and his fellow Canadian the great William Shatner). I am a huge and lifelong Rolling Stones fan and somehow while one day scrolling around near their epic song 'Can’t You Hear Me Knocking," I discovered shatnershairpiece’s mesmerizing 94-minute jam inspired by that song called 'Can’t You Hear Me ‘Nickin,' and he has been La Cueva’s house band ever since. Robin is and for many years has been a busker in Vancouver BC and both on the street and in his home he creates the most amazing, seemingly endless but never repetitive guitar jams over the top of a looping backing track, most all of which are inspired by another artist or their music. Although ethereal, Robin’s playing is rooted in rock and roll, which of course is in turn is largely rooted in the blues, and so it never loses its groove or its bite; it never turns to mindless mush as so much other ‘spacey’ music does. To the contrary, his creations just go on and on in the most mysterious, rhythmic, and captivating way. Anyway, I ended up playing shatnershairpiece in La Cueva so much that, in addition to proselytizing about him to visitors, I felt obliged and happy to sign up to his Patreon channel. The only way to fully understand and appreciate shatnershairpiece is to listen to him, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes great music, instrumental or otherwise. Robin has created and posted dozens if not hundreds of songs, and each one I have listened to is a gem. And if you like his playing I would strongly urge you to show your support by signing up to his Patreon channel to help keep him giving the world such wonderful and dare I say therapeutic music. Here are links to Can’t You Hear Me Nickin’ and to two other songs I play a lot in La Cueva: I Just Want to See Mick Taylor’s Face and Darkest Peru. I am confident you will enjoy shatnershairpiece as much as I do.
